Self-drive requirements: licence, age, and the fine print

UAE residents need a valid UAE driving licence and Emirates ID. Tourists and visitors can drive on a valid licence from their home country together with an International Driving Permit (IDP) — bring the original of both, plus your passport and visa-entry stamp. GCC nationals can generally drive on their home licence. A licence in Arabic or English is straightforward; otherwise an IDP covers the translation requirement.

Most supercars carry a minimum age and minimum licence-held requirement, and a small number of the highest-performance cars ask for a year or two of driving history.
